How to get there
By Car Motorway Bologna-Florence, exit "Firenze Impruneta"
Italian motorways have toll booths. At the toll stations get into the right lane to pay with cash (look for the signs with coin symbols). Sometimes you pay on entering the motorway, sometimes when leaving it. Have some change ready. After the toll station 'Firenze Impruneta' at a big roundabout, follow the signs to 'Siena' and 'raccordo per Siena'. This takes you onto a four lane motorway. Leave at the exit for 'Colle Val d'Elsa Sud'. Take the first right for 'Colle Val d'Elsa' 'Casole d'Elsa'.
Next there are three roundabouts, one after the other. At the first follow the signs for 'Grosseto' 'Radicondoli'; at the second 'Gracciano', 'Grosseto', 'Radicondoli'; at the third 'Casole d'Elsa, 'Radicondoli', 'Grosseto'.
At the next junction veer to the left in the direction of 'Grosseto', 'Radicondoli', 'Colle Val d'Elsa'. Shortly after take a sharp right over a bridge. You are now on road 541. After about 20 kms. you will see an old stone road sign, turn right in the direction of 'Roccastrada', 'Grosseto', 'Chiusdino', on road 73.
After 8 kms, at the next junction, leave road 73 and turn right in the direction of Chiusdino. After 7 kms you will reach Chiusdino. Passing through Chiusdino the street turns sharp right and goes downhill. When you pass the last houses of Chiusdino, (after around 1.5 kms) the road turns sharp left. Directly after this sharp curve, you will see a large old oak tree and behind it a garage with a big brown door on your left hand side. Look out for a red American style post box next to the tree, here begins the street downhill to Le Querci. Follow the lane about 200 metres till our house.
Just past this entrance is a typical Italian walled cemetery, lined with Cyprus trees. If you pass this you have just missed the entrance to Le Querci!
Motorway Livorno-Grosseto, exit 'Follonica Est'
Leave the motorway at the exit for 'Follonica Est' and follow the signs for 'Masssa Marittima', road 439. Bypass Massa Marittima in the direction of Siena and take road 441.
After 21 kms. leave this road and turn left in the direction of Chiusdino. After 2 kms. pass through village of Ciciano, in the direction of Chiusdino. After another kilometre on the left hand side you will see a typical Italian walled cemetery, lined with Cyprus trees.
Look out for a red American style post box on your right. This is the entrance to our house. Follow the lane down about 200 metres.
BY PUBLIC TRANSPORT
From the train station in Florence - Firenze (Santa Maria Novella) - take a regional train to Siena. In front of the train station in Siena take a number 122 bus (Pulman) in the direction of Rosia, Ponte Feccia, Cicano. The last bus leaves at 20.10. There are no buses on Sundays and public holidays. Buy the ticket in the train station at the window on the opposite side of the exit from the newsagent (your left as you come out). This is cheaper than buying it from the driver on the bus. Ask the driver to let you off at the stop for the 'Cimitero'.
