Here you can enjoy untouched, rural Tuscany, the hills covered in 'macchia' (woods of indigenous species - oak, chestnut, broom, alders, willows and poplars - carpeted with violets, viburnum, liana and cyclamen).

The unspoilt wild life reserves along the rivers Merse and Farma can be explored on foot, horseback or bicycle.

In the valley of the river Merse is the famous abbey of San Galgano. Today the sword of San Galgano can be still be seen embedded in the rock where he thrust it over 800 years ago. Musical performances are held here on summer nights.

The hot thermal baths at Petriolo (a 35 minute drive) have been famous since Roman times.

Siena (only 35 kms. away) is easily reached by bus from the stop 200m from the house. A visit to this astonishly beautiful city, with its unique central piazza in the form of a shell, is not to be missed.

San Gimignano, Volterra, Florence, Pisa, Lucca and Arezzo can also be reached in a day. As well as wine-tasting in the famous regions of Chianti, Montalcino (Brunello) and Montepulciano, you can enjoy the wonderful landscape, and old and modern art in the sculpture gardens.

The seaside is 45 minutes away. Famous Etruscan cities like Populonnia and the inviting Gulf of Baratti are only 1 hour away. An hour and a half's drive south will take you to the famous natural park Uccellina, the Tarot Garden of Niki de Saintphall, Orbetello and the lagoons of the Argentario.

Because of the excellent bus and train connections, a day trip to Rome is possible. If you wish to stay over night, we can recommend an excellent, small hotel near the station.
